Buku Hagarism yang ditulis bersama oleh Cook dan Crone pada 1977 menjadi suatu yang kontroversi dan dibincang ramai. Pernah pinjam buku tersebut namun tidak sempat menghabis baca. Berbagai review dan kritik dari ramai pengkaji yang boleh kita kumpul dan baca. Antaranya adalah;

Petikan artikel Muhammad Al-Dulaimi:
' ... the authors (Cook and Crone) gave a different conception of Islam based primarily on Judaism and Christianity and excluding Islamic sources and relying instead on non-Islamic sources in a failed attempt to obliterate Islamic history and invent a new history that agrees with their ideology'.
Di satu sudut lain pula (wiki - link) .. This controversial thesis did not win wide acceptance, but it did gain respect for [Crone's] erudition and lucid analysis.
Satu review lagi menyebut ... Cook and Crone shed much light on how Mohammed united the Arab tribes and of course how Byzantium was so fundamentally changed by the rise of Islam. We are talking about an extraordinary 40-year conquest by the end of which almost two-thirds of the Empire had been lost. That was an extraordinary thing for a centralised government to have to come to terms with - (link).
