The joint stamp was originally planned by Pos Malaysia to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Malaysia and Romania, which were established on March 22, 1969. The commemorative issue was intended to feature endemic flowers from both countries.
Endemic flowers are flowering plants that naturally grow in a specific, restricted geographical region and are found nowhere else on Earth.
