HK Declared Monuments - The Bethanie

Kalau di negara kita sesuatu bangunan lama di gazet sebagai heritage building. Pengiktirafan yang diberi oleh kerajaan melalui pihak yang berwajib. Di HK keadaannya sama sesuatu bangunan lama akan diberi pengiktirafan sebagai Declared Monuments. Salah satu bangunan yang mendapat pengiktirafan tersebut adalah The Bethanie.

Located in Pokfulam, the Béthanie was built by the Paris Foreign Missions Society (Missions Etrangères de Paris) in 1875 as a sanatorium and is now a declared monument. Almost a century later, the heritage building was taken over by the Hong Kong Government and leased to the University of Hong Kong from 1978 to 1997. In March 2003, the Legislative Council approved capital works funds for The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts to restore the Béthanie and two neighbouring Dairy Farm cowsheds as its associated campus, housing training facilities for the School of Film and Television of the Academy. The restoration was completed in November 2006. The Béthanie was also awarded an Honourable Mention at the 2008 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Cultural Heritage Awards.

Siapa penulisnya Munis D Faruqui.

Munis D. Faruqui is a historian and professor at the University of California, Berkeley. He specializes in the Muslim experience in South Asia, with a specific focus on the politics, culture, and intellectual life of the Mughal Empire.

Current Roles: He is a Professor in the Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies (SSEAS), the Director of the Institute for South Asia Studies (ISAS), and the holder of the Sarah Kailath Chair of India Studies at UC Berkeley.

Stadium Levis dan World Cup

Salah sebuah stadium yang jadi tuan rumah World Cup ialah Stadium Levis di California. Oleh kerana Levis buka penaja World Cup maka Fifa amik keputusan nama Stadium Levis tak boleh ada dan mesti ditukar nama lain.

Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, is temporarily renamed the San Francisco Bay Area Stadium during the FIFA World Cup. This unbranding is due to FIFA's strict requirements that prohibit non-official sponsors from displaying corporate names within the venue.

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association, widely known as FIFA, requires all of the World Cup venues — a total of 16 this year across the U.S., Mexico and Canada — to strip corporate branding from the exterior and interiors as much as possible.

That means Levi’s Stadium is now officially known as San Francisco Bay Area Stadium, and anyone in or near the venue can see that the recognizable red batwing-style Levi’s logos have been covered tightly in white tarps.

Setem 125 Tahun IMR

Salah satu bisnes Pos Malaysia ialah menjual setem. Walau dah tidak ramai beli setem pejabat pos masih menerbit dan jual setem baru. Mereka perlu terus jual setem baru sebagai mengingati sesuatu sejarah dan sambutan. 

Contoh paling kini setem 125 tahun penubuhan IMR .. institute of medical research Malaysia.

Setem sambutan ulang tahun ke-125 IMR

Bila sebut pasal IMR ada seorang tokoh yang patut kita kenang. Allahyarham Ungku Omar. Dia jadi Pengarah IMR pada 1968 hinggalah kematian beliau pada Feb 1969.

Nama yang diabadi sebagai Politeknik Ungku Omar Ipoh.

Visconti Garden of Eden

Garden of Eden merupakan sebuah taman ikonik di Venice. Apa kisahnya dan kenapa diabadi namanya oleh pen Visconti.

The Visconti Giardino dell'Eden is a 2016 limited edition fountain pen (100 pieces). Created for Giardino Italiano's 20th anniversary.

Ada juga cerita Garden of Eden ini dikaitkan dengan kematian seorang Raja Greek, Crown Prince Alexander (d.1920). 

Kematian yang mencetus respon oleh Winston Churchill. Beliau menyebut “It is perhaps no exaggeration to say that a quarter of a million people died of this monkey’s bite.” . Baca fb - link.

Sebuah tinggalan yang ada di Garden of Eden

Garden of Eden pernah dimiliki oleh seorang berbangsa Inggeris nama Frederic Eden. Beliau membeli milikan tersebut pada 1880.

After the death of Mr. Eden in 1916, in 1927 the garden and the villa were passed to Princess Aspasia of Greece who further enriched the garden with botanical Mediterranean species. In 1919, the princess married the crown prince of Greece Alexander, who died a year later from a monkey bite; their only daughter Alessandra in 1945 married Peter II, the last king of Serbia. Aspasia lived in the palace and garden of Eden until her death in 1972.
