The 1992 stamp issue, titled "The 125th Anniversary of the First Stamp in Malaysia," was released by Pos Malaysia to commemorate the 1867 introduction of the first adhesive postage stamps in the Malay Peninsula.

It was released alongside the "Kuala Lumpur '92" International Stamp Exhibition, which highlighted the growth of the nation's postal history.

The 1992 Malaysian Tropical Forest stamp series was released to celebrate the country's rich rainforest biodiversity and to commemorate Malaysia's global pledge at the 1992 UN Rio Earth Summit. At this summit, Malaysia committed to maintaining at least 50% of its landmass under natural forest cover.
