The 1992 Malaysian Tropical Forest stamp series was released to celebrate the country's rich rainforest biodiversity and to commemorate Malaysia's global pledge at the 1992 UN Rio Earth Summit. At this summit, Malaysia committed to maintaining at least 50% of its landmass under natural forest cover.
