Cyprus postal authority has issued a special stamp to mark the Cypriot Noble Prize Winner - Christopher A Pissarides. The stamp was issued quite recently - on June 8, 2011 (click - source). Dr Pissarides is Professor of Economic at the London School of Economics (LSE). He won the 2010 Nobel Prize in Eonomic Science (read Dr Pissarides homepage - here).

Thailand became a member of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) on July 1st, 1885. This enabled it to provide International postal services under the same rules as other Union members. Someone who played an important role in helping Thailand to become a member of the UPU was H.H. Prince Prisdang, who was, at the time, a Thai Ambassador to Europe.

Year 2011 saw Egypt President Mubarak stepped down and fled the country after major demonstration against him. He ruled Egypt for 30 years. Election after election saw him won with votes garnered almost 100%. How did he do that?

Italy - Sempione Tunnel

A special stamp to commemorate the centenary of the opening of Sempione Tunnel (Simplon Tunnel) was issued on March 18, 2006. Simplon Tunnel is the longest rail tunnel in Europe. The tunnel is also known as Sempione Tunnel (or Italian Passo del Sempione). The tunnel was the longest in the world when it was built (i.e., 19.8 km long) links Italy to Switzerland..

Russia - Moscow Metro

The Metro train service is a most vital element for city transportation. Most cities in Europe have established such Metro system. Russia is one good example. Moscow Metro was established way back in the 30's.

Moscow Metro has celebrated its 70th anniversary in 2005. A set of special stamp was issued to commemorate the event on April 25, 2005.



According to a report, Moscow Metro started its operation on May 15, 1935. The first service was established as Red Line consists of 13 stations. Now the Moscow Metro is considers as one of the biggest and the most beautiful in the world. It has 12 lines and 180 stations with 9 million people commute daily.
