The 2003 stamp was issued to commemorate the formal coronation of Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah as the 9th Sultan of Selangor. He ascended the throne in November 2001, but the official coronation ceremony was held on March 8, 2003, at the Istana Alam Shah in Klang.
