The games held in Malaysia in 1965 were called the Southeast Asian Peninsular Games (SEAP Games). Not SEA Games, because the name reflected the original grouping of participating countries in the Southeast Asian Peninsula. The "SEA Games" name came later, in 1977, when more countries joined, necessitating a change from "Peninsular".
