The "Malaysia 2014 57th Independence Celebration" stamp was released to commemorate the 57th anniversary of Malaya's independence on August 31, 1957. It was uniquely symbolic as a "double 57" milestone (2014 - 1957 = 57), and was issued despite national festivities being notably scaled back that year out of respect for the tragic Malaysia Airlines MH370 and MH17 incidents.
