Egypt - Ahmed Zewail

Ahmed Zewail on Egypt stamp (1998)

It is really rare a scientist from Islamic countries has been awarded with the Nobel Prize. An Egyptian scientist Ahmed Zewail has won the Prize in 1999 (probably he was nominated in 1998). Ahmed was declared the winner of Nobel Prize in Chemistry 1999. He was awarded the Nobel "for his studies of the transition states of chemical reactions using femtosecond spectroscopy". Zewail is a Professor of Physics & Chemistry at California Institute of Technology, Pasadena.
  • A long list of scientist whom photos were appeared on stamps can be read here. Among the famous and prominent names were Albert Einstein, Isaac Newton and Werner von Siemens.
