Guinea Stamp - Baardeen

A stamp of Guinea (source - click)

Guinea is a relatively small country in West Africa. News coverage on Guinea is very seldom appear in the main stream media. The most recent coverage was about the death of its President (Pres. Conte). That was late last year (somewhere near Christmas celebration 2008). The news was more about the turmoil on who are going to be the new President. That is typical for a poor country especially in Africa.

The Guinea's stamps shown below is depicting image of John Baardeen. Actually, Baardeen has no connection with Guinea what so ever. The stamp is just to honour Baardeen as he is the inventor of transistor. Baardeen died in 1991. More about Baardeen's life and achievement can be read here.

The stamp was issued in 2002 (probably on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of his Nobel Prize).
